With the three elements, the fire can occur at any time.
With the three elements required to start a fire (extreme heat, fresh oxygen plus flammable lint), and the favorable conditions for this event (overheating, clogged ducts) the fire can occur at any time.
Is your dryer
taking twice as long to get through one load of laundry? Do you need to do an extra cycle just to get your fabrics dried up and ready for folding?
If you answered yes to any of the previous questions, you may have a dirty and clogged dryer vent in your hands which needs professional attention.
What is the dryers lint made of?
Lint is, basically, the short and fine fibers that separate from the surface of fabrics and clothes, Many types of fabric are made up twisted fibers, mainly of cotton and linen, to provide flexibility and comfort. Lint is the result of the deterioration of the fabrics. With normal use, clothes already begin to deteriorate slightly. During the washing, the washer machine will agitate the material, causing some wear, and also those tiny fibers untwist. As your clothes tumble in the dryer, air flows though the dryer, loose fibers break free and are finally trapped in the lint filter. When all the loose fibers stick together on the filter, you get a filter full of dryer lint.
However, not all the lint is caught by the lint trap. Many tiny fibers (are too small) and go through the filter, accumulating along the length of the duct. If the exhaust duct is not cleaned at least once per year, a thick wall of lint will form on it. This will prevent air from circulating in the dryer, who will increase the length of time it takes to dry clothing. It also creates a fire hazard because the lint has a high flammability. Placed inside the drum of a dryer with hot air created by a heating element, an occasional overheating or open flame, dryer lint can easily catch on fire.
What are the warning signs?
